about

"Las Vegas' Shanda & The Howlers make '60s R&B original again on new LP It Ain't Easy." - Las Vegas Weekly

"Las Vegas quarter Shanda & the Howlers grab a gallon of early-60s Motown and another of 50s rock & roll for a walking, rocking time capsule on third album It Ain’t Easy. Leader Shanda Cisneros has a vocal tone that slides right into any of these stylistic moves with ease, and her Howlers back her up with skill and verve. The band may claim It Ain’t Easy, but they sure make it look like it is." - Big Takeover Magazine

"This new album is a monster! It Ain't Easy is the perfect marriage of the pop appeal of the band's debut Trouble and the old school rawness of follow-up Hurt For Me. On Hurt For Me, you could hear the band beginning to stretch beyond its roots in Motown/Stax soul. It Ain't Easy takes that progression to another level." - Lord Rutledge

"A mixture of Fifties Rock’n’Roll, Sixties R’n’B and Spector-ish Girl band sounds… A band that attempts to play such an ambitious mix really needs to know what they’re doing. In the case of Shanda & The Howlers, they do it with confidence and conviction. If this album doesn’t make you want to dance, then your ears and your feet must be on bad terms! Play this loud and impress your neighbours!" - Fear And Loathing

"And once again with Rum Bar Rds I say to myself but how do they manage to find bands of this level that I had never heard of before?" - Voix de Garage Grenoble

"The album title might suggest otherwise, but writing a new collection of hip shakers seems to come off quite easily for the Las Vegas band. Thanks for that." - Add To Wantlist

"What makes It Ain't Easy such a home run is that it's exceptional in all of the necessary departments: vocals, musicianship, songs, and production. Shanda Cisneros is unquestionably one of the best singers I've ever had the privilege to review (my god, that tone!). The creative chemistry she has with bassist and songwriter Luke Metz is something special. She sings Metz's lyrics as if they were coming from her own soul. And Metz has pulled off something that a lot of modern musicians struggle to do: crafting a collection of songs that his musical heroes would have been proud to have written. You could fool almost anyone into believing that "Miles and Miles", "Please Come Home", and "Used To Call Me Baby" are long-lost R & B chart hits from the '60s." - Faster And Louder

"The first time I heard Shanda's voice and the Howlers supplying the music, I was hooked. Shanda & The Howlers have a great R&B/soul sound and it continues on the upcoming Rum Bar Records release titled "It Ain't Easy"." - Skybar Rising WMFO

"Musically Shanda & The Howlers are a delight for the ears if you are a fan of the Garage & Soul crossover! When the singer of the Detroit Cobras disappears, this group from Vegas takes up the torch, in a version that is certainly less wild and more 'roots', but just as high-end!" - Voix de Garage Grenoble

"With Shanda Cisneros the band has a front lady that is so easy to listen to. She masters all the genres her Howlers play behind her. Her voice has a tough and deeper quality but has an element that makes a listener melt straight away as well." - WoNo Blog

"Gals' got a hell of a set of pipes." - Jittery Jack

"Lou! How the hell do you come up with so much fab stuff?!? She kicks ass!" - Fran Fried

"Shanda & The Howlers are a band out of time. The Las Vegas based band sound like they should have been around back in the 50's and 60's. They have a blend of R&B, blues, garage, and soul that doesn't sound like a throwback or even an homage. A song like "Miles and Miles" sounds like the real deal. It's the kind of song that sounds like it could be from an old Nuggets compilation." - If It's Too Loud

"That new Shanda track....Wow. Just WOW! Gives me chills." - Lord Rutledge

"Shanda & the Howlers are the real deal!" - Faster And Louder

Shanda & The Howlers have traveled "Miles and Miles" from their home of Las Vegas, NV forming in 2015 playing 50s-60s influenced R&B, Blues, Garage & Soul. Highly influenced by the sounds of Motown, Stax and Sun Records, they began writing songs immediately which eventually led to their debut album 'Trouble', released in 2017 on Rum Bar Records. With radio play on Little Steven's Underground Garage and other stations, the band branched out, playing festivals and shows all over the west coast as well as securing slots at the Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend for multiple years.

In 2018, the band released their follow up 'Hurt For Me" on Wild Records and traveled to Europe twice in 2019, playing festivals and club shows in England, Germany, Austria and Belgium. In 2021, the band recorded their third album 'It Ain't Easy' for Rum Bar Records (due for a January, 2022 release). The band currently has an upcoming tour in Europe planned for September/October of 2022.

Shanda and The Howlers put on a high energy live show and have played on bills with such legendary acts as The B 52s, Ronnie Spector, The Stray Cats, Reverend Horton Heat, The Blasters, Wanda Jackson, JD McPherson, Squirrel Nut Zippers and Save Ferris. Lead singer Shanda Cisneros' raw vocals seem to claw their way through your speakers as the band locks tight behind her with gritty saxophone riffs, a Motown inspired heart beating thump of the rhythm section and the occasional slide guitar. Shine up them shoes, polish your blade, grease back the hair and get ready to rumble.
