"For anyone who has been thinking “these tracks, they’ve been getting a bit introspective and delicately beautiful lately” then we hear you and we’re here to address the situation. We’re starting the week with a real belter of a rocking Americana tune. We wouldn’t be the first to suggest that there’s a bit of Lucinda Williams to be found in the music of Kate Redgate, who’s publicity suggests that she is a heart-worn sleeve storyteller, alt-country, rebel rouser, musician, artist, and creative force. Listen to ‘Light Under The Door‘ and you’ll surely find yourself saying “yes, yes, yes, yes, yes and…yes to the whole list.”" - Americana UK
"Kate is amazing, there's no other word. I consistently respect and trust your taste in music, but every once in a while, an artist comes along that just resonates with me like crazy and makes me go "WOW." Kate's one of those artists." - Mike DeAngelis, There Once Was A Note
"Life will take a swing at you, and sometimes it pulls a knife. Light Under The Door is Kate stepping toward it with a roll of pennies tucked in her fist." - Jon Nolan, Producer
"She always could write a nice whiskey-soaked ballad. Nice!" - Dan Kopko, The Shang Hi Los
"Another home run Lou. Will play this on my show!" - Jeff Munger, The Alternate Root
"Fools, Drunks & Liars" has that kind of sound that should appeal to virtually everyone. But Redgate dances by the mainstream without fully dipping in. This song reminds me of Lucinda Williams' more rock side, but with less of a twang and more gravel in Redgate's vocals." - If It's Too Loud
"Congrats on the record! I dig the tunes. In particular, that Fools, Drunks and Liars (sorry, & Liars) is an instant classic in my brain. It's been running off and on in my head for the past few weeks as we've been wrapping this up." - Dave Westner
For all the rebel-rousers, alt-country outlaws and heart on your sleeve story-tellers - this one’s for you. Kate Redgate’s music is a mixture of rock and roll, folk, roots-rock and country. The result of a high school dropout using time well spent absorbing her early influences: the ones she heard as a kid on the loudspeakers at the Illinois Boots and Saddle Club, the ones she saved money and hitched rides to buy recordings of at the local record store, and the ones she waited to hear on the radio, cassette recorder button ready, so she could rewind and playback songs over and over learning chords and writing down lyrics. The Stones and the Grateful Dead, X and the Replacements, Pretenders and Joni Mitchell, Steve Earle and Emmylou Harris… You get the drift.
Some of these songs are beautiful, but don't call 'em pretty. If you believe life is a straight line, this record might not be for you. You're holding in your hands a manifesto on trust and grit. Grit born of Kate surviving the stories enshrined in these songs, and trust in bandmates to help her realize them. We found that trust in our friend Bryan's little rehearsal room, working through material after the lockdown months. It turned into a deep belief in our ability to channel the soul of the lyrics into this collection of music together as a group. It was a process of discovery and an unfolding that led us on the studio floor, cutting the basics of these songs entirely live in the same room. The band was willing to trust, and we let 'em fly - vocals and all.
After some years in the dark, Kate is re-emerging onto the New England music scene and beyond with a suitcase full of new songs and new energy.
