"Outta tha park, baby!" - Lauri Radio
"This band is just unrelentingly cranking." - Boston Groupie News
"The Downhauls are just that dang good." - Rock And Roll Fables
"There is something so iconic about the newest release from Salem’s The Downhauls and going back to listen through Scream Into The Void while doing this blurb is a killer reminder of how blessed we all are that original music like the powerful Punk/Rockabilly/Americana amalgamation created here exists." - Rock And Roll Fables
"The Downhauls follow up last year’s spitfire Versus (All Modern Evils) with another four-song EP, the equally blasting Scream Into the Void. Chrissy V and the rest of the Boston quartet continues to perfectly balance melody and madness, laying down singalong powerhouses like “Spit Out the Poison” and “Don’t Care” with the ease of veterans and the fury of the terminally angry. Remember when the Bangles rocked Simon & Garfunkel’s “Hazy Shade of Winter” into the ground? The Downhauls take the same song and say “Hold my beer.”" - Michael "Denim" Toland, Big Takeover Magazine
"The Downhauls are an all-female punk rock’n’roll band from Boston who seem intent on making loud music that’s catchy, raw and fun. Imagine The GoGo’s recording their first album with Joan Jett and receiving a similarly raucous production sound as the one she got for the first Germs LP? Keep the melodies, but turn everything up and don’t be afraid of a few rough edges… Well, that’s a similar sort of spirit and direction that The Downhauls seem to follow. It’s punk rock and it’s rock’n’roll, both in the most primal sense. Fine stuff – demand that your local radio station plays it NOW!" - Fear And Loathing Zine
"A new EP by The Downhauls is a sure welcome record. The band has a subscription to this blog, it is safe to say by now. Scream Into the Void brings highly energised punkrock by an all women band that score quite good on my Veruca Salt meter. Screaming into the void ought to become something of the past and fast. Screaming into thousands and thousands of fans' ears should be the correct title for this EP." - WoNo Blog
"Boston's The Downhauls are just a no nonsense rock and roll band. Their latest single, "Spit the Poison Out," is a shockingly catchy song given how rock it is. The vocals have a certain quality to them that reminds me of the Donnas. It's both harmonies and gang vocals at the same time, which you don't hear too much. Musically the song sounds like both Cheap Trick and The Clash. "Spit the Poison Out" is both a catchy straightforward power pop/rock song that has more than enough punk edge. The Downhauls are both fun and badass at once." - If It's Too Loud
The Downhauls promise “fast and loud” in their bio, and deliver hard with this brand new four song collection! From heartache, grief, and
loss, to triumph and overcoming pitfalls while riding the wave of life, there are times that all you can do is scream into the void in order to keep on going.
The album, produced and mixed by Matthew Alexander, kicks off riffy with Don’t Care, a fast tale of letting go, featuring backing vocals by Tai Heatley, and some epic Chrissy V screams. Spit the Poison Out is a driving anthem for anyone feeling held back, affirming that it's time to move on! Blindside bounces in with some lyrical sass, heavy rhythm, more screams, and a monumental guitar solo. Then the album rounds out with a cranked up cover of a cover of Hazy Shade of Winter (also featuring Tai Heatley) that was released as a single in March and has received significant play on numerous local and international radio shows.
Here's wot some mighty fine folks had to say about "Hazy Shade of Winter" digital single release:
“The Downhauls, a Boston punk band that’s made a nice reputation of not giving a s**t what you or anyone else thinks, have revved the song back into high gear with a. As one would expect, it totally crushes.” – Vanyaland
“The Downhauls really shred the song apart in a fantastic version. The lead guitar really rips the riff apart. It is the drummer however who kicks off the song by pounding away for quite some time. When the guitar bursts loose there's instant recognition for the pop connoisseurs. This is punk rock heaven.” – WoNo Magazine
