about

"The Laissez Fairs reach their sixth album and, after 2018's Empire of Mars raised the bar, they've produced a consistently interesting and absorbing array of '60s-influenced beat-pop and trippy psychedelia." - Richard Allen, Shindig! Magazine

"From Las Vegas with fury. Aided by his teammate Joe Lawless (who pens three songs and co-writes another one) and his scion Cromm, John Fallon is living a second youth, and the Laissez Fairs’ sixth album is another dive into the multicolored pop-psychedelic cauldron of yesteryear, announced by opener 'Real Good Time in 1969', which couldn’t be more programmatic. Garage-y attitude, plenty of guitars and organ touches, raga brush strokes and mod nuances, and Fallon’s voice at times (Fields of Yesterday) recalling the spells of the Steppes era (from which he retrieves drummer James Bailey), for songs 'Upon the Wall' (their Eight Miles High) and 'Pretty Penny' stand out, which seem like treasure troves from some old 45rpm forgotten in the attic, and which we seem to have known forever. And it’s always great listening." - Blow Up Magazine, May 2023

"We’re not done with astronauts, apparently. We can’t help but notice an extraordinarily gorgeous one on the cover of THE LAISSEZ FAIRS’ latest album. She has her helmet on, yet there’s something decidedly old-world about her. An aura of imperishable ’60s nostalgia that fitly mirrors the music that former Steppes frontman John Fallon and co make together. ‘Pretty Penny’ is another delicious mod nugget that will have us fantasise for three more minutes before the real world comes knocking." - Shindig! Magazine

"This is an excellent mixture of powerpop, psychedelia and Mod melodies that will have you thinking that you’re right back in 1969 again. It makes me think of what The Monkees may have sounded like had they ever had the chance to make a record with Sky Saxon…. Musically, this is very accomplished stuff but at the same time it’s also a lot of fun and that seems to be the important factor. Although this is obviously a band who know what they’re doing, they’re not po-faced about it and clearly want to make this an entertaining album. Nostalgia, indeed, but just as valid now as it would have been then." - Fear And Loathing Fanzine

"The Laissez Fairs have plunged even further into the psychedelic Sixties while keeping their Garage Punk roots. You don't write a song like "Real Good Time In 1969" or "Fields Of Yesterday" with impunity!
The whole thing is enriched with strong Power Pop, Weird, Folk Rock, Freakbeat fragrances and a touch of Pop Baroque! If you are looking for an album where Sixties Psyche, Power Pop, Freakbeat, Mod, Garage Punk combine without falling into clichés, this is the one for you!!!" - Voix de Garage Grenoble

"We're still big on “Pretty Penny” that was released earlier. The rest of the album lives up to that song. It’s amazing how many classic psych tricks and tonalities the group captures. They get it right with guitars, bass, drums and voice. The songwriting is spot on perfect too. One favorite is “Wildforce” that nails the Byrds 12 string sound. “Goodbye to Samantha” sounds like the Velvet Underground. We hear some early Beatles in “Love Me Love You”. You can play the whole album and play spot the influence …or just take it at face value and enjoy." - Paul Blowfish

"Singing in your head? Fat chance with an album like Singing In Your Head. Las Vegas' The Laissez Fairs lets it all hang down on its new album and outdid itself. This album is outstanding." - WoNo Blog

"Psychedelic quartet’s fifth album arrives amid swirling fog, haunting vocals, and the scent of patchouli and marijuana. The howling guitar on “Real Good Time In 1969” is as seamless as a synthesizer. “Kathleen Caffeine” is sooo sixties. In fact, the whole album is, with echoes of the Quicksilver Messenger Service, Moby Grape, and Country Joe and the Fish. “A Wildforce” shares DNA with Israel’s greatest power pop band, the Rock4. You can hear Doors opening on “Everything Is Now Is Never Enough.” Even the titles are sixties. The ensemble singing is reminiscent of the sadly unheralded Jessica Fletchers. “Pretty Penny” sounds like something the Hi Dials might do, another band worthy of a wider following. Which is not to say the Laissez Fairs don’t have their own sound. They are instantly identifiable. You don’t need to drop acid to love them." - Bloody Red Baron, Pop Geek Heaven

The Laissez Fairs recreate the music of decades ago and come up with a great album in 2023. Psychedelic rock is all around as if 1967, early 1968 never went away. Now many bands dab in this kind of music. Some sound more modern in their approach others stick closer to the source. You will find The Laissez Fairs more on the latter side of the equation. With short ventures to the other side.

"Singing Inside Your Head is filled with songs that could have been released, in mono, circa 56 years ago. Shows would have been filled with hippies, smoking illegal substances or worse with fluid projections on the wall behind the band and pre-disco mirrorballs twirling." - Wout de Natris

"The Laissez Fairs from Las Vegas return to WoNoBlog with a 60s infused psychedelic rocker with a great pop melody. This could have been an obscure song by The Move that The Laissez Fairs have unearthed from a forgotten b-side or outtake. Pretty Penny is in your face, ears and mind before you are aware of it. Add all the psychedelic 1960s tricks in the book and you have a song that mesmerises and pleases all at the same time. This is a great pop song that should be teleported back in time and would have scored a huge hit in 1967. Alas, it is 2023 but I'm rooting here. Go and listen because "Pretty Penny has it all"." - WoNo Blog

"Rum Bar’s Laissez Fairs has a single out preceding an album (Singing in Your Head) that will come out on January 20, “Pretty Penny” sounds like an English psychedelic recording from 1967. It’s thick with overdubs, heavy on echo and swirls around like a drug induced high." - Paul Blowfish

“Time and Space…well, perhaps a timeout for a space out. The Laissez Fairs deliver this trip in a most pretty package of multi-coloured ear candy. Complexity. Dexterity. Sincerity. Turn up your mind field, relax, and drive downtown…in St. Christopher’s GTO. Drink in this lovely, bubbly dissolver. It starts with a real good time dancing with a caffeine girl upon a wall in the distant fields of yesterday…but it’s never enough! So you try to escape in that GTO…but we must first say our goodbyes to Samantha and England’s forever Laughing Boy. Bless them…and bless The Laissez Fairs. They’ll be singing in your head and you will not be lonely.”
