"Boston rockers driven by the blistering lead guitar of punk legend J.J. Rassler and dynamic vocals of the female Bon Scott, Jen D’Angora." - Joe Belock, Three Chord Monte WFMU
You don't listen to Victory Motel, you experience it. "Make Your Mark" speeds the blood rushing through your veins; "Out in the Streets" sends shivers down your spine, "Laughin' Out Loud" pummels you with gospel and soul, and "Lonesome Town" sends you down the road with a lonely country twang. Victory Motel is an album for ALL fans of Rock 'n' Roll.
Victory Motel is a gritty, powerful, no-frills rock ‘n’ roll rampage that has no boundaries. Taking cues from ’60s Beat and Soul, Girl Group Sounds, and ’70s inspired Punk and Garage, the Downbeat 5 create their own wall of sound. It’s built from foot-stomping beats, three-part harmonies and JJ's ripping lead guitar riffs accenting Jennifer’s sensual vocal screams, and a primal rhythm section featuring Mike Yocco on bass and Eric Almquist on drums. The record was mixed by Paul Q. Kolderie, who has worked with Blondie, Radiohead, Hole, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, The Lemonheads and the Goo Goo Dolls, as well as many other bands. JJ Rassler was a founding member of the legendary DMZ as well as a former member, session guitarist and vocalist, songwriter and producer for the infamous punk band the Queers. His work with the Queers includes their most heralded release Don't Back Down on Lookout Records. Jennifer D'Angora's songwriting and vocal and guitar contributions to Abbey Lounge recording artists the Dents has helped that band achieve substantial recognition as well as a spot with both bands in the WBCN Rock and Roll Rumble. As a songwriting and performing team JJ and Jennifer have found strength all their own.
Abbey Lounge Records — run out of the Somerville, Massachusetts, dive's garage — had played a part in the revitalization of Boston's incredible rock/punk scene. Releasing acclaimed recordings from Boston-based bands including the Dents, the Marvels, the Downbeat 5 and Street Dogs as well as an upcoming release by the Coffin Lids, the label has found a niche for the local bands that packed the Abbey Lounge on a regular basis and need to be heard on a wider scale.

Rum Bar Records is turning into one of the absolute best labels for real rock and roll these days, if you haven't gotten hip to that trip. It's the boss sound from the Boss-town." - Bill Kelly, Bill Kelly's Teenage Wasteland WFMU
