"Danny’s a sole proprietor, playing everything himself and overdubbing vocals for sweet harmonies. At seven tracks, this might have been an EP, but it’s also long enough for a full album. Danny’s writing is Carole King/Gerry Goffin bright, shunning the ancient first, fourth and fifth chords in favor of pure pop for now people." - The Bloody Red Baron, Pop Geek Heaven
"We guess that an EP should leave you wanting more and that’s certainly the case here, roll on a full album release from Danny K!" - The Soul of a Clown
"Better known as Watts, Peppermint Kicks, and Shang Hi-Los co-frontman Dan Kopko, Danny the K leans hard into the power pop side of his personality with Cigarettes & Silhouettes. Going it alone a la Todd Rundgren (or Dave Edmunds), the Boston rock icon beautifully balances the sweet ‘n’ salty with “Roller Derby Girl,” “Sugar Rush,” and the title track, as superb a song as he’s ever penned. He also incorporates electro-rhythms in “Met You in the Elevator” to add yet another flavor to his rock & roll jones." - Michael "Denim" Toland, Big Takeover Magazine
"7 of the best reasons to listen to Dan Kopko can be found off his incredible debut solo album!" - Rock Never Rusts
"While Danny the K has been a major creative force in the underground rock and roll world for a long time, Cigarettes & Silhouettes is his first creation that's 100% his baby. The vision and the execution were entirely in his hands, and he knocked it out of the park." - Lord Rutledge
"Every song on the EP is a single!" - Tim Livingston
"Kopko plays a brand of powerpop that is heartfelt and resonates at an AM frequency." - Add To Wantlist
"Danny The K, a co-author of what is still my #1 ranked album of 2023, is without a doubt one of the best songwriters out there. Oddly enough, he'd never done a solo release — until now! Cigarettes & Silhouettes finds the Watts/Shang Hi Los/Peppermint Kicks rock superstar devoting himself fully to a pure pop sound. His knack for big hooks and earworm melodies has long been on display in the hard rock, punk, and garage rock songs he's best known for. But on Cigarettes & Silhouettes, he goes all in on pop and creates the ultimate soundtrack to summer." - Faster And Louder
"I am not sure if there has ever been a more prototypical Rum Bar Records artist than Dan Kopko. Kopko (co-)fronts The Shang Hi Los, Watts and The Peppermint Kicks. That’s a whole lot of rockin’ and shakin’ in the Rum Bar mold! If you need more proof of Kopko’s songwriting saviness, I am happy to report that he recently made his solo debut under the Danny The K moniker. Danny plays everything on the Cigarettes & Silhouettes EP. It has five songs, and as a bonus, acoustic versions of the title track and The Skateaway, two of the best songs on the EP." - Add To Wantlist
"With The Shang Hi Los he has released a contender for my favourite album of 2023, with Cigarettes & Silhouettes he certainly is contending for a position among my favourites of this year. Praise for this album started with the single 'Roller Derby Girl'. What a nice and great song this is. (Continue in an old single post.) What is earcatching, is that as Danny 'the K' Kopko manages to give every song something special, a feature capturing me each time." - WoNo Blog
"Danny The K's (Dan Kopko) "Sugar Rush" is the song of the summer!! It probably sounds best on the beach from a transistor radio. It starts with a tinkling loop of an ice cream truck jingle but with a big bass drum kicking in. The power crunching guitars fill in next. What’s so special is the way it captures that summer vacation feeling. The cartoon video fits the bill. We recognize the image of ‘Mr. Frosty’ in the vid." - Boston Groupie News
"These songs, like “Sugar Rush”, take you to your ideal summer vacation where you had the best time of your life. They are irresistible and will give you a rush of great memories. How Dan can get that in his songwriting, we don’t know." - Boston Groupie News
"Cigarettes & Silhouettes is the centerpiece of this years soundtrack of summer. Conjuring up the crashing waves of emotion and memories of saying goodbye to long-lost love under the Boardwalk on the last night of vacation. Not only does Danny the K hit the mark with this EP, he spins it into a carousel of pure-pop perfection." - Tim Livingston, Radio Warfare
""Roller Derby Girl" is textbook power pop and a legit song-of-the-summer contender. This, my friends, is classic Dan Kopko: a riff-o-rama earworm laden with silky harmonies and more hooks than The Home Depot." - Lord Rutledge
"Dan is one busy/creative soul." - Paul Blowfish
"We listened to it ten times in a row, now it’s your turn." - Boston Groupie News
"More hooks than a BASS Pro Shop!" - The 'Secret Weapon' Radio Show
"Heck YEAH!!!!!" - Linda Bean Pardee, The Chelsea Curve
"Sounds Great!!!" - Jesse Best, Muck and the Mires
"This song is fantastic!" - Chris Conway, The Gypsy Moths
"Another instant hit!!!" - Linda Bean Pardee
"Excellent Song" - Tim Downie (aka Mars Man)
"Ooooooo! I love these!!!" - Palmyra Delran
"And the hits keep coming!!" - Brad Halen, Nervous Eaters
"This rocks!" - Chuck Ferreira
"That kick drum." - Jesse Von Kenmore
"Danny the K has just about done it all musically, from the power of Watts to the rock of The Shang Hi Los and Peppermint Kicks. And let's not forget the spot on tribute band known as The Clash City Rockers. It seems like all there is left is a solo release.. well that box has now been checked!! The first single "Roller Derby Girl" is out and it's a rock n roll gem! Out of course on Rum Bar Records, Danny The K has done it again!!" - Skybar Rising
"Dan Kopko has already written, sung on and slung guitar on a slew of outstanding songs for his main outfit Watts, along with side-projects the Shang Hi Los and Peppermint Kicks. Welly, welly, well my Droogies it seems like ole’ Danny the K may have been holding out some of his best material for his new solo EP, 'Cigarettes & Silhouettes' if the lead single “Roller Derby Girl” is any indicator its going to be a stunner! DK has always been a master-crafter of power-pop, glam and swaggering rock n roll and this one sounds like if Strummer/Jones wrote a hit single for Cheap Trick! We know thats not going to happen so thank the Rock Gods for Danny the K!" - Radio Warfare with Tim Livingston
Danny The K (aka Dan Kopko) is co-leader / front man of The Shang Hi Los, Watts and The Peppermint Kicks. With two Coolest Songs in the World on Little Steven's Underground Garage ("Sway Little Player" and "Billy" - both with The Shang Hi Los), Danny knows how to pen and produce an earworm. His first solo EP release, "Cigarettes & Silhouettes" - rolling up to your curb this summer on Rum Bar Records - is no exception. The first single, "Roller Derby Girl" mines Danny's familiar London Calling meets In Color by way of Roy Thomas Baker territory, with an infectious melody, power pop guitars, and thick harmonies over a fat kick snare underbelly… money-back-guaranteed to reverberate around your head for days. Spin liberally and enjoy the sounds of Summer '23 courtesy Rum Bar Records and Danny The K.

As a concept album . . . well, no such thing has ever survived on the conceit of the concept if the songs aren't there. Even Townshend can't explain what the hell Tommy is about. But Ryan brings the songs "because he has to" (to paraphrase the last cut), and thank the rock gods that he does. The fact that this is better than the last Who album by about 50 miles makes me think there will never be a last rock band, and beyond that, the concept probably doesn't matter that much.
