"The Gypsy Moths’ 2022 album Following the Races was one of Rum Bar’s biggest and most delightful surprises for this writer last year, so the seemingly immediate follow-up with Sound On is most welcome. Clearly not wanting to be restricted to the garage rocking soul of their prior record, the sextet expands on its vision here, incorporating country rock (“Home To You”), folky pop (“A Six Man Bicycle,” “Metronome”), and “Don’t Let the Love Songs Fool You,” which imagines what would have happened had the Beatles recorded at Stax. Though “No Respect For Tomorrow” returns to Races’ blue-eyed soul, the specters of Joe Jackson and Graham Parker haunt the grooves more than Southside Johnny. Another fine album from a band that refuses to be pigeonholed." - Michael "Denim" Toland, Big Takeover Magazine
"The Gypsy Moths, a Quincy band with an impressive knack for writing the kind of catchy pop and R&B songs that would have been standouts if they’d appeared on a long-lost LP from a ‘60s British Invasion band." - The Boston Globe
"Congrats to The Gypsy Moths on their fantastic new album! They absolutely tore up the stage Friday night for their record release unveiling. "The Further Adventures of Paul Villiard" is a horn and guitar guided rock 'n soul tour." - Rock Never Rusts
"The Gypsy Moths are such a neat local band! They are so charming and appealing. The mainstream sound, with the elegant writing and playing, goes a long way. “A Six Man Bicycle,” the opening song to their new album Sounds On clicks on so many levels: the pace, the tone, the writing, the playing. It seems so right, that’s song writing that other’s must be envious of. We got stuck on “Home To You” after hearing it on a local radio show. The voice on this has a slightly nasal quality that reminds us of the Bodeans. We love the line, “If I could get through this damn day, I’m always in my own damn way”. It has the glow of a sweet memory. A lot of that is accomplished by the assured playing by the whole group. Through the album it’s that cohesive group sound that is the selling point. They are so lucky they found each other. They are like, well, a six man bicycle; “a band together win or lose”, as they sing. “Tilt-A-Whirl” packed with its Nantasket Beach memories is a song we think only the Gypsy Moths could pull off. For locals this a special song. We found ourselves enjoying the musicianship and the arrangements of all the songs." - Boston Groupie News
"Boston has a long history of fantastic garage rock. Our latest discovery are The Gypsy Moths, who have been kicking around since 2014. They're on Rum Bar Records, which is a great way of telling that they are legitimately great. Their Bandcamp profile refers to them as "Garage soul shakers," and that pretty much nails it. Their music is rollicking garage rock with killer soul horns and vocals. They have a vintage yet modern sound. It sounds like it could have been released pretty much any time between the late 70's and now, but in a way that only a Boston garage band could." - If It's Too Loud
"Rum Bar Records Strikes Again! The Gypsy Moths are the avatar of the moment for this label that knows exactly what province of recherche musical sentimentalism it wants to plant its flag in. Something like proto punk, the limbo between the big 70s arena rockers and VFW halls, when bands had absolutely no idea what they were *supposed* to sound like…and didn’t care! Our highlighted track “Tilt-A-Whirl” raises the question: do you capitalize the ‘a’ or do you not? Shades of Ramones pontificating on Rockaway Beach. Shades of Water Country." - Hump Day News
"Hey that new Moths tune is KILLER. Tilt A Whirl I love it!" - Sal Baglio
"The Dogs highly recommend these young men, always 100%, great musicianship and stellar songwriting. Don't miss them!" - The Dogmatics
"Awesome!! Brings back old memories!" - Eddie Barese, SCMF
"Rum Bar Record's support of creative and cool bands such as The Lemon Drop Gang, The Dogmatics, The Gypsy Moths, and many others, is beacon of light in a darkening world. All kinds of praise to Rum Bar!" - Austin Roper, loyal fan and estimable customer
"The Gypsy Moths have a real nostalgic number in “Tilt-A-Whirl” which is about a ride at Paragon Park in Nantasket Beach back in the day. It’s has a horn arrangement working all the way through to bring home the good time vibes." - Boston Groupie News
"Classic Gypsy Moths-stellar musicianship, and detailed nostalgic writing. The song is so uplifting. I hear influences of The Beach Boys, Oasis and local star Richie Parsons. Great song and my favorite lyric “I tried to kiss you on the Ferris wheel for real”… these lads are the finest wine in Boston - they just keep getting better!" - Jerry Lehane
"Only the Gypsy Moths could take the financial woes of the Catholic Church and un-ironically turn them into a three-minute-and-fifty-seven-second banger." - Lisa Pollack
Just in time for your summer soundtracks, our brand new full length album 'Sounds On'! Beautiful, tasteful, comforting, familiar melodies and unexpected harmonies that are reminiscent of The Beatles, and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich !! It will undoubtedly lift your spirits and make you feel not alone in terms of having troubles with the female populace. A must listen in my opinion. malogna
