"Parsons with Unnatural Axe defined punk in Boston so many years ago. To have some new punk material by him in 2023 is a big deal." - Boston Groupie News
"Richie Parsons' new punk EP Rhymes With Rock. is on Bandcamp now. Unnatural Axe do shows every now and then but don’t actively do new songs but Richie has been doing different material, so when he had some punk songs that just came to him over the years, he decided to recorded them. This is primo punk!! That we get it in 2023 seems extra special. We can hear the Axe playing these at some future show." - Boston Groupie News
""#1 Punk" is too delicious. Richie rags on the punks who won't give it up. They "dress like it's 1977/ Their leather jacket doesn't zip/They don't give a shit." Joe Queer was involved in this project and "#1 Punk" sounds like the Queers a bit. There's a five note Buzzcock like guitar line. It's funny and yes it's all very punky." - Paul Blowfish
"A long time ago Richie Parsons defined Boston's punk scene, so I'm told, with a band called Unnatural Axe. Now it's 2023 and he sings "dress like it's 1977/ Their leather jacket doesn't zip/They don't give a shit" and later some references to bands and titles. The music blazes through my room as if the last train is only just within reach. 1.56 minutes and its all over, just like a song like this should. #1 Punk has a great melody, allowing for shouting along while pogoing, and a great little riff that tears through the song here and there. With #1 Punk Richie Parsons has made a dent in my music collection. Be on the look out for the EP, 'Rhymes With Rock"." - WoNo Blog
Richie Parsons from Unnatural Axe and a bunch of his punk rock pals ..Joe Queer and Jimmy Keough guest on vocals and Rick Jones and Jack Clark, Frank Dehler, Tom White, Doug Harper, Malcolm Travis!!
A couple years back Unnatural Axe filled in for the Real Kids at a “Throw Down”. The Queers were on the bill and I sang "All Kindsa Girls" with them. I knew / know Joe ..but only thru music and a mutual respect for each other’s bands. I sent him 2 tunes shortly after and he really dug them (#1 Punk and Shit Show). I recently listened to them and had just written a very Unnatural Axe song (Go Shit In Ya Hat) - Side note: The Axe don’t really play new songs, we wrote 20 or so good ones and are happy to play them whenever. So having 3 I figured I could pick a cover and write a 5th for an EP. The cover is "Outside View" by Eater and the 5th tune is "Uncle Bill”. Uncle Bill is special to me because all of the lyrics are from my dad’s diary (1934-36), Every Word.
Joe was supposed to come up from Atlanta to produce and got stuck there at his own studio due to a session that was booked and an engineer that did not show up. I told him not to worry, I would track everything here with Ed Riemer and my band, plus some other folks.
We recorded 4 songs with Me, Frank Dehler, Doug Harper, and Malcom Travis (my current band) And 1 with Me, Tommy White, Jack Clark, Rick Jones (Rick was a last minute fill in for Frank Basically Unnatural Axe)
Jimmy Keough sings with me on "#1 Punk" and Joe Queer sings with me on "Uncle Bill", "Outside View" and "Shit Show".
