Captain Easychord Great rockin’ tribute to Justine, Jay & Criminals!!! Musically, this sounds reminiscent of the Replacements meeting Buffalo Tom! Lyrics are touching but with enough edge to keep Justine from kicking your ass! Favorite track: Sister in Crime.

about

This song is dedicated to the memory and written for one of my dearest and closest friends of the last 40 years, Justine Covault. She was an amazing woman, who meant a lot to so many people and we lost her way too soon. For me she was more than a friend, she was my most ardent supporter, not just in music, but in life, bandmate, roommate, and for the last 7 plus years my co-host along with Tom Baker in our monthly residency, The Mess-Around. Her impact on our little Rock ‘n’ Roll village here in Boston is immeasurable. Not just as an artist with her two bands, Justine and The Unclean and Justine’s Black Threads, but as a supporter, fan, promoter, and most importantly the founder of Red on Red Records, who in 3 short years created a multi-media home for many artists locally and from around the world. -- Jay Allen, October 2023

"Fantastic, heartfelt tribute." - Danny Casparriello, SCMF

"Jay Allen was a friend and collaborator with Justine Covault. which has lead to him recording a tribute song to his late friend with his band, Jay Allen & The Archcriminals. "Sister in Crime" packs a ton of emotion into a six minute song. Fittingly enough, this isn't a "Candle in the Wind" style ballad, but instead it's a full on rock song. How else would you memorialize Justine Covault?" - If It's Too Loud

lyrics

There she stood, a beam of light
Always willing, to stand and fight
I wouldn’t expect anything less
Right by my side to make a mess

Just so fearless, I tremble in awe
Why did my queen have to fall
Could this be real and not in jest
As my friend she was the best

I didn’t see it coming
And I don’t know why
Tug at my heartstrings
Till I start to cry
I lost a big part of me
And that’s no lie
She wasn’t a handful
She was a box full

She was too busy having my back
Never saw the big attack
Out of my head why I ask
When I’d fuck up she’d kick my ass

If rock ‘n’ roll’s a crime then find her
guilty as charged

There we were thick as thieves
She’s gone I don’t wanna believe
What a cruel twist of fate
It was that smile and laugh that
made her great

There she stood, a beam of light
Always willing, to stand and fight
I wouldn’t expect anything less
Right by my side to make a mess
